Collecting Old Wheat Back Pennies

This is a very interesting find for me. As I lined up these 1942 no mint mark pennies to take an image I noticed that one of them was a 1948. I started to look for another 1942 example. I ended up taking the pic just to be sure. Once I was done I determined there was dirt on the date but I'm still not sure. This might be an error penny. Sometimes the double strike mint errors on these pennies can be really hard to see. This is especially hard when these coins get circulated. If any of you have a better eye please tell me if you see something different. I'm still leaning towards it being dirt around the two in the date.

Old 1948 No Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

These 1948 no mint mark wheat back pennies are my first post of the day. I'm uploading this image just before going to bed so forgive me if I don't sound like I'm fully awake. These are all your average quality wheat cents. I would not think about using any of these to fill a book of coins I was trying to complete. You will see a lot of coins in this state as you begin your journey as a collector. Never get discouraged though. There are many much finer examples of quality condition coins for you to find so keep hunting.

1955 No Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

Today I have four 1955 no mint mark wheat back pennies to share with you. I wish these were the error double stamps from this year. 1955 was the year the wheat penny saw one of it's most obvious mint errors. During mintage a small but significant sum of pennies got a double strike but the second strike was so off that no one could miss it. I'm not sure if it was this penny or the D mint mark that has the error. If you do find one of these error pennies you will know you have one right away because the error is so obvious. You will also find yourself many thousands of dollars richer.

Four More 1954-D Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

Today I have another group of 1954-D mint mark wheat back pennies to share with you. The quality of these circulated Lincoln pennies is not really that bad considering they have been passed around for over 65 years now. They are a little dirty and have some wear and tear but I've seen far worse in my day. This is still a very common date though, I wouldn't expect to see much change in value for these in the coming years. These go for about 10 to 15 cents each right now and I think it will be a long while before we see that number go up for such a heavily minted date.

Outdoor Daytime Pics Of 1956-D Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

Here are four outdoor daytime pics of 1956-D mint mark wheat back pennies I took today early this morning at work. The sun was under cloud cover today so the lighting wasn't to bright. I used the flash on these as well and I think they came out pretty well. As you can see there is still a problem when shooting multiple coins like this. You just can't get them all to look optimal because the lighting is going to favor one side when you're doing extreme close up shots like these. I guess there is always going to be a problem with balancing light and dark as long as I'm shooting close up images. Even so it's pretty obvious there is an advantage to shooting outdoor daytime pics of old american coins like these and I will endeavor in the future to do as much of my photography outside under the sun as possible.

1941 No Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

Tonight I have four circulated condition 1941 no mint mark wheat back pennies. I'm just getting off work and didn't have time to make a post earlier today but I wanted to at least get one image up to update this blog. I will try to get at least one post a day finished as we move through February. It will be tough and will mean I have to do more coin roll hunting . I know I have enough coins to get a post up every three days so at least this site will be updated more than once a week. Hopefully this weekend I can dig through some rolled up pennies and see what I can find.
