1951-D Mint Mark Wheat Back Pennies

Here are four 1951-D mint mark wheat back pennies I pulled from my collection. When I first took an image of these old pennies I thought they were all 1951-D wheat pennies but after I looked very closely at the first image I took I noticed that one of them was a 1951-S penny.  That's how hard it is to tell the difference sometimes. You really have to have a good eye for details if you want to be a good coin collector.

Luckily I caught the mistake before I uploaded the first photo. The S mint mark pennies are much harder to find than the D mint mark pennies because they were not minted in large quantities. Usually they are worth more and hoarded more by collectors. In the case of the 1951-S penny they are worth about the same as the 1951-D for some reason. Even though the latter was produced in about five times the quantity.

Who knows why this is true but let's hope that the value of these old wheat back pennies only goes up as time goes by. I'm hoping to sell them all and retire to some tropical paradise someday.
